Seeing as I'm getting lots of hits regarding Sentou no musume, and I haven't really posted anything about the show, I figured the least I could do was post a short introduction, so people who are interested at least can find out more about it.
Sentou no musume was a 45 episode daytime dorama that was aired in Japan early in 2006. It features Yaguchi Mari as the lead actress in the role of Yume. Unfortuantely this show never caught enough attention among western fans, and thus no-one has so far subtitled the show. You will have to know japanese to watch this one.
The background for the story goes like this: After Yume's mother dies, Yume decides to go looking for her father who never were there for her nor her mother. She blames him for her mother's death, and is in a rather confrontational mood. Taking the few clues she has as to who her father really is, she ends up at a bathhouse and demands attention.
With this backgorund the story takes place, and nothing really goes as planned. It's a lighthearted show with lots of amusing moments. We get to see Yaguchi taking on a role remarkably similar to her personlity. That is: being loud, demanding and generally just the way we like her!
There are lot's of characters in this show, which leaves us with a variety of episodes and minor plots. One of the most prominent characters is Manaka Rukurou, played by Ibu Masato. He is her supposed father and the bathhouse owner. He also happens to be in love with Jamaica and practices capoeira, with little to no success.
Lot's of stuff happens trough out the series, and I'm not going to throw any spoilers. What I can say, is that while the show itself is 45 episodes and does have an ongoing plot, it's also a show which can be enjoyed on an per episode basis.
There are a few cliffhangers here and there, which just makes you switch to the next episode almost immidiately, but all in all it's a nice, feelgood dorama, which mostly leaves you chuckling at all the silly stuff that happens and the amusing situations that come up.
Very much worth a watch. For more information about the show, do check these sites:
